A beginner's guide: introducing post-16 citizenship to staff and learners
This training session will help staff and/or learners get to grips with the definition and key principles of post-16 citizenship. Participants will consider its benefits for all learners and their organisations. Sessions for staff will include an introduction to the variety of possible models and approaches to setting up and organising citizenship activities and programmes, whereas sessions for learners will focus on practicing and developing the skills of effective participation and political literacy.
For staff, the session will also examine the relevance of citizenship for other institutional priorities and government initiatives, including the Learner involvement strategy, community cohesion and Personal, learning and thinking skills.
The session will model an active learning approach that is central to effective citizenship provision and offer an opportunity to find out about best practice examples from other organisations and see how post-16 learners can get involved and make a difference in the communities they operate within at all levels.
