Tutoring citizens: planning effective learner voice and citizenship learning in the tutorial curriculum
Group tutorial programmes for post-16 learners often feature personal and social learning and some elements of citizenship education. This session is designed to enable a more robust approach to incorporating citizenship learning into group tutorial programmes with a particular emphasis on facilitating effective learner voice in the tutorial curriculum.
Participants will consider approaches and activities for involving learners in reviewing existing programmes, consider the distinctive nature of citizenship and examine ways to ensure that opportunities for real, active citizenship are included in tutorial provision.
This session will also introduce the value of making an organisation-wide commitment to citizenship with a citizenship policy and help participants think through plans for schemes of work, planning new programmes or revising existing ones.
